Safari India National Tourism Awards, the most renowned award event of the tourism industry was held recently in amalgamation with Pacific Area Travel Writers Association (PATWA), at The Ashok, New Delhi. Since 2001, Safari India National Tourism Awards are being given annually to professionals and organizations in travel and tourism industry, for having a meritorious edge in their field of work. These awards are given to recognize the leadership quality in the field of hotel, tourism, travel agents and professional work done by the state governments. These recommendations are given by the travel industry and approved by the editorial board of Safari India.
Sagar Ahluwalia, Secretary General, PATWA and Editorial Advisor, Safari India welcomed the guests by giving an inaugural speech. Madan Prasad Bezbaruah, Representative (Asia), United Nations WTO recognized the awardees in person. Distinguished professionals, diplomats, government officials, representatives of international organizations and who’s who in the travel industry attended the function.
Safari India National Tourism Awards for the year 2012 were presented as follows:
‘Best Overseas Tourism Director in India’ was presented to Adel El Masry, Director, Egyptian Tourism Office, India.
‘World’s Largest and Trusted Visa Outsourcing Company’ was presented to VFS Global.
In the category of ‘Best Professional in Marketing’, the awards were presented to seven people that include Pinki Arora, Marketing Representative, Tourism Authority of Thailand; Romit Theophilus, Director- Sales & Marketing, German National Tourist Office; P. Manoharan, Director, Malaysian Tourism Promotion Board; Rajeev Kohli, Joint Managing Director, Creative Travel Private Limited; Sheema Vohra, President, Sartha Marketing Consultants; Vineet Mahajan, Complex Director of Sales & Marketing, The Westin Hotels & Resorts; and Vijay Jaiswal, Head- Sales & Marketing, Fortune Park Hotels Limited.
In the category of ‘Best Person in Marketing Management’, the awards were presented to two people that include Sanjeev Kumar, Manager- Brand Programs & Events, Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group, Asia Pacific and Tajinder Singh, Director- Sales & Marketing, Country Inns and Suites.
Suresh Nair, Regional Manager & Country Head, AirAsia received the award for ‘Best Marketing Person’.
In the category of ‘Best Professional in Hospitality Industry’, the awards were presented to five people that include Suresh Kumar, CEO, Fortune Park Hotels Limited; Barun Jolly, General Manager, Crowne Plaza Today New Delhi Okhla; Jitendra Mohanty, Chairman, Swosti Group; Vikas Sharma, General Manager, Aloft Bengaluru Whitefield; and Zubin Songadwala, General Manager, ITC Sonar.
‘Best Indian Restaurant’ was presented to Dumpukht.
Fortune Hotels received the award for ‘Best First Class Full Service Business Hotel Chain’.
‘Best Coach/Car Tourist Transporter’ was presented to Bakshi Transport Service Pvt. Ltd.
‘For Promotion of Tourism’, the award was presented to Rahul Chakravarty, Additional Director, FICCI.
Rajiv Chandran, National Information Officer, UNIC- India and Bhutan received the award for ‘Best Professional for Media Relations’.
Air India and Go Airlines (India) Limited received the award for ‘Airline of the Year for Cuisine and Services’.
In the category of ‘Best Professional in Travel’, the awards were presented to three people that include Subhash Goyal, President, IATO; Rajindera Kumar, FHRAI; and Rajiv Makin.
Subhash Verma, President, ADTOI received the award for ‘Best Professional in Tourism’.
‘Best Online Tour Company’ was presented to MakeMyTrip.com.
Assam received the award for ‘Best Emerging State’, Madhya Pradesh received the award for ‘Best Destination for All Seasons’, Amritsar got the award for ‘Best Heritage City’, ‘Best State for Adventure Tourism’ was presented to Himachal Pradesh and Odisha received the award for ‘Best State for Pilgrimage Tourism’.
‘Best Tourism Managed Overseas Organisation in India’ was presented to Egyptian Tourism Office, India and ‘Best Overseas Tourism Office in India’ was presented to Tourism Authority of Thailand.
An international seminar on ‘Climate Change & Sustainable Tourism’ was held by PATWA prior to the award ceremony. Madhya Pradesh and Air India gave the presentation for their respective state and airline. The event was followed by a Lucky Draw and a gala dinner.
